We usually host a full-blown Friendsgiving at my crib before Christmas season kicks off. But prior-commitment issues (i.e. "I have to spend time with my family or significant other") kept our greater crew of friends from successfully coordinating on a day this year. To uphold some semblance of tradition, a smaller (less codependent/more single) group of us opted for a celebratory Saturday brunch at what's quickly becoming our go-to Astoria spot: Queens Comfort.
Queens Comfort is the stuff New York City brunch dreams are made of. Got a hangover? How about some Disco Tots drowning in gravy and cheddar or deep-fried mac and cheese bites (aka Atomic Fire Balls) to bring you back to life. Into Eggs Benedict? Queens Comfort has all the Benedict bases covered with fresh interpretations of the traditional breakfast dish. And, if you've got a sweet tooth then just fahgettabouit; from their pancakes to their one-of-a-kind donuts, you'll be hard-pressed to leave disappointed.
If its throwback ambiance and live DJ set aren't enough to sell you on the schlep to Astoria, then I should mention that they have a BYOB policy (no, I did not stutter: BEE–WHY–OH–BEE). And although they're cash-only, you'll be delighted to see how little you spend (and how drunk you get...oops) at Queens Comfort after DIY-ing mimosas at the table.
